Until I remember that when Christians had the social power to seek retribution for "offenses" against them, they more often than not oppressed perceived blasphemes with great brutality. Just because secular rationality has made an indelible enough image in the West that Christianity is no longer a major political consideration, doesn't mean that the church has become more enlightened on it's own accord. Rather, it was forced to be that way in order to maintain it's ever-decreasing flock. Yes Matt, that is REAL interesting.
